EDUCATION IN EMERGENCIES: TEDPRIME HUB PARTNERS WITH 720 DEGREES TO DEVELOP THE FOREMOST VIRTUAL LEARNING INTERVENTION DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN NIGERIA

As part of measures to keep students across the globe engaged with learning with emphasis on education in emergencies, TedPrime Hub in collaboration with GMG Tech has volunteered to develop an online virtual learning platform for Ogun State, Nigeria and global students.

The platform which was conceptualized under OgunDigiClass Project framework by the Special Adviser, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Ogun State government of Nigeria seek to engage Ogun State students from both primary and secondary schools with world class digital online resources on every core topics in line with British Curriculum to cut across learning experiences for students in rural and urban area through mass media (radio and television) and online interventions. The website – www.ogundigiclass.ng was developed to provide teaching resources from experienced teachers ON core topics in the school curriculum in both primary and secondary schools as well as external examination  curricular (Junior and Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations) for access and avenue to evaluate and assess students at every learning scenario thereby giving room for remote and distance learning dynamics where learners can learn at different times. The platform which has over 180 video instructions (with an extension on Youtube) provides resources in English, Mathematics, ICT, Geography, Agricultural Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Yoruba Language and basic primary school subjects on Mathematics and Literacy.

According to Hon Minister for State Education in Nigeria, Ogun Digiclass was adjudged as the best online platform amongst other related edutech solutions for Covid-19 Lock down. From the feedback received on the reach and accessibility, over 2 million viewers across Nigeria and countries like Uganda, South Africa and Netherlands have accessed the contents which are uploaded on weekly basis.

Speaking on the success of this project, the Hub Manager, Balogun Samuel reiterated the commitment of TedPrime Hub Nigeria to take accessibility on digital education further by digging deep on low cost technology infrastructure to cater for students in underserved areas to attain inclusive, equitable and sustainable distribution of quality education as enshrined in United Nations Sustainable Goal 4.
