The Federal Government College, Odogbolu has emerged as the winner of the maiden edition of the Ogun State Codeliners Competition and Exhibition of the TedPrime Hub
The historic event which was organized by TedPrime Hub in Partnership with United States Consulate, Lagos, Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Computer Teachers Association of Nigeria, Lead Resources, OOPL Youth Development Centre and Airtel Nigeria presented 10 finalists out of over 100 applications received was held on 17th May, 2018 at the OOPL Youth Development Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Finalists and their project ideas were judged using the exhibition and pitching segments of the event by the independent panel of Judges drawn across different sectors.
After the first round of the event which was the exhibition, 5 schools and teams emerged and advanced to the next stage of the competition. These schools were FGC, Odogbolu (Scratch animation on how to combat herders/farmers crisis), Abeokuta Grammar School (Scratch game to teach colours), Ilusin Grammar School (Android app to teach Computer studies), Regal New Heights College (Android app to solve solid shapes problems) and Deeper Life High School, Odeda (An Accounting app). After a rigorous judging process, Federal College, Odogbolu was announced as the first prize winner, Deeper Life High School, Odeda for the 1st Runner-Up and Regal New Heights College completed the top prize winners as 2nd Runner-up. Also, Mr. Francis Arharhire of Federal Government College, Odogbolu won the best mentor award.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Durosinmi charged the finalists and the attendees on the Need for Coding prospects available to Youths in the 4th industrial revolution. Represented by The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Olayinka Mary, encouraged the schools to keep the momentum of the innovations springing out from their schools as future potentials for the State.
The Project Facilitators, Messrs Odeogbola Ayodele, and Adeeko Olalekan assured the state of their commitment and dedication to the development of education in Ogun State, Nigeria, and Africa at large through groundbreaking innovations.
The Finalists were branded with gifts from the Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate Lagos, Airtel Nigeria and a tour to President Olusegun Obasanjo Library. Robots, Micro:bits, Edubox Devices, and Certificates of Recognition were awarded to All the finalists and schools.
